    Found a knife

Looking for something priced in the Mora range up to around $80.
Would like a leather sheath, possibly kydex. Prefer a higher carbon count and don't mind oiling but also considering 440 stainless. Blade length 3 - 4". Will be belt carried, not neck or on the pack. It will lead a hard life hiking/camping and also be used for hunting/skinning related work.

I'm following the fleabay knives pretty closely, but the good ones tend to be a tad pricey. Prefer doing biz here.

Found one. Details to follow in the Cutlery section after I get it.
    Thanks for your info.

In your price range you have some great choices to chose from.
Check out the SOG NW Ranger

    Or a Cold Steel SRK
    http://www.knifeworks.com/coldsteels...lexsheath.aspx

I have both and they are excellent outdoor blades. The SRK is one of my favorites...

Or a great knife at a excellent price.

    WTB a knife

The Mora Carbon Black has become my favorite backpacking knife. http://www.knifecenter.com/item/FT10...e-Black-Handle

It is a bit beefier in every way than the old standard Mora Clipper/Companion: thicker blade, taller blade, longer tang. I polished off the coating on the bevel with a diamond stone, then finished it off with a series of sand papers and leather strops, all glued to a piece of wood.

Exceptionally comfortable in my large hand.

there are several sizes & shapes to choose from &

one of my favorites is the Green River Hunter

when you read the heritage of this brand, you may be adding it to your list of possibles

I love my Mora Bushcraft Triflex, but if I was in the market to buy another knife it would definitely be the new Mora Bushcraft Black... Who am I kidding, I'll likely buy one by month's end..

What is particularly appealing to me about the Mora is that is one of the lowest priced truly functional knives. It is also one of the lightest. One has to intentionally try to break the Mora to prove that their full tang sharpened pry bar will outperform it.

The $40 Mora Bushcraft Black has a whopping 1/8" thick 4.3" long blade yet weighs only 4.3 ounces without the sheath. Many knives easily double that weight.

Forum member JasonInTN makes very nice Kydex sheaths if you PM him.

a couple of knives that i have good luck with that i will probably catch a little slack for are the bear grylls series from gerber. when the big survival knife first came out from grylls it got some bad reviews for a weak handle, but they revamped it. i have had nothing but good things to say about the one i bought. i also own his smaller one with paracord handle and really like it for its weight, but sometimes i wish i had brought the bigger one when batonning medium sized logs. the third knife i own that i really like is a SOG seal pup. i had originally bought it for a deployment (not that i would have used it doing maintenance on an aircraft, lol, just to feel cool carrying it around), but i have used it for camping since then and found that it performs well. the best out of the three is the survival bear grylls knife from gerber, but it's also the heaviest.
