Am I right in thinking that a Dog Bone is basically 2 locked brummels on a length of amsteel? I get how to do one but how do you get the other end to be locked?

There are two options. First, you can make the other fixed loop the same as the first. It takes some effort but the completed end can go through the amsteel if you separate the strands enough to make the other locked brummel. The second option is to make the second fixed loop using the MacDonald locked brummel which is used when you have access to only one end.

What Bubba said. Honestly though I find the McDonald so easy sometimes I do them on both ends.

+1 on the MacDonald Brummel--quick and easy. Dogbones are a hammock hangers' best friend.
