Ounce weenie, if i did grams i would probably drive myself crazy. I use the eagles nest outfitter double nest (w/ lighter carribeaners that i substituted), which about half the time is used for 2 people. As far as additional material goes, it has plenty. Also i was thinking that instead of using a space blanket, maybe the material used in the amk bivy sack would be better (http://www.ems.com/catalog/product_d...cid=GoogleBase). Gotta say, im loving my first day on the forum.

Hmmm I'm watching a show on how they process wool atm. Has anybody ever used this as insulation? I'm sure it would be cheaper than down.

I must admimt that I'm not very informed about underquilts. If one of the jrb quilts is used, at what temperature would it be too cold to forego any top layer?
Warmth to weight & pack volume ratio a properly suspended down underquilt will probably be warmer than a fleece/sb quilt. I use a HH ocf+sb+ JRB WeatherShield (~#1 wt) for moderate temps. 40 to 50F I start use the JRB MWUQ (~30oz wt). Nest used as a top quilt for mid 60F down to low 20F. Underquilts and top quilts allow for easy tweaking if too hot. A situation that happens with MWUQ at the relatively warm temps I start using it. Usually start off with the Nest pushed to the side.
