Will cuben's price get better soon?

Most of the time (but not always) I can control my enthusiasm when a new great product hits the streets, and usually I can buy it at a better price later.

One of the standard strategies in marketing is to "skim the market", setting up a high initial price for a product, and offering it to individuals who are not price-sensitive. Later on, when the pool of early adopters is exhausted, the company lowers the price.

Where in the timeline do you think we're on the price of CF? Will the price crash next year, or will it stay high for a long time?

It's a speciality material and not something that finds application across a large market ... so probably not going to see that happen with Cuben Fiber.

I think you're going to be waiting a long time on a price drop. Cubic Tech Corporation has exclusive rights to develop and sell cuben fiber for all non-sailing applications. With no competitors, they're pretty much a monopoly.

Agreed, Cuben appeared many years ago as a sail material for one of the Americas Cup teams. I would not expect much lower prices on this price until another lighter, stronger material becomes available.

Pretty much this. Cuben will drop in price when something new comes along, until then I don't expect to see much, if any, price drop. Although the more I look at it versus other fabrics I don't consider the cost to be outrageous. Still out of my prefered price range certainly, but in the grand scheme of things not that bad.
