    The latest in ultralight tech?

    http://physicsbuzz.physicscentral.co...invisible.html

According to the Nobel Academy document, if a one square meter hammock made of graphene were "tied between two trees you could place a weight of approximately 4 [kilograms] before it would break. It should thus be possible to make an almost invisible hammock out of graphene that could hold a cat without breaking. The hammock would weigh less than one [milligram], corresponding to the weight of one of the cat's whiskers." (Pardon me if this went over the heads of our less savvy readers.)
    First cats...then campers.

    The latest in ultralight tech?

Graphene is a fantastic discovery, it's basically graphite (pencil lead) but thinned over and over until it's 1 atom thick. It forms in perfect hexagons making it extremely strong.

It is also massively conductive of electricity, making it next in line to replace silicone in computer chips. I think it's amazing stuff!

So based on the above postings we can expect a hammock that weighs roughly 60 milligrams, will conduct electricity perfectly in a lightning storm and will probably cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $100,000 for the average consumer.

As an electrician I see this as a very bad thing for hammocks, especially in lightning storms. Might need a faraday cage of sorts to protect the sleeper... Lol

Oh and if you didn't watch the floating frog video, you should. Hilarious...

15.4g for a 120kg limit hammock, that is a serious discovery!

It may be a little ridiculous when a ridgeline weighs more than a hammock though... a new rope tech anyone?
