    eay... I am not sure what you are questioning. My wife brought home a fleece from Ireland which we carted around for years before finally taking it to a period processing shop in Old Sturbridge Village in MA to have it done. The processing as I described it is pretty much accurate. The dreads have a specific name which escapes me now.

    Batting has many uses beyond felting which you have correctly pointed out. The rolls are used for spinning into thread. I watched my wife do it many times on her hand spindle. My point was... and remains that the carded wool in that form is not really suitable for much of anything beyond further processing.

    Yep - I agree - carded wool is only good for further processing.
