    Would this work?

I already have one of these and wonder why it wouldn't work?

One thing I love about it is that it has built in loops to hand it from, and that it hangs from four corners, so there's plenty of head room.

It's very long and could be tucked in around you or I might try to figure out another way to put it around the entire hammock at the bottom. Maybe a casing with a barrel=lock.

One thing I do not like is that it is white, but I can see through it fine.

    Thoughts?
    Feedback?

The Campmoor one is 1/3 of the weight(4 oz.), and the same size. I wonder what is the difference?

It seems a bit narrow, but perhaps you could add some tie-outs to the sides and hang it lower to increase inside space.

    Well

I don't know, maybe the fabric?
The campmoor is polyester mesh but is small enough for mosquitos.

It is narrow at the top, but instead of a single ridgeline, it's rectangular, so in reality there's more space (a LOT more) than on the original Speers bugnet. It spreads out pretty nicely.

And it's very long.. seems a person could even stake it out around them.
I'm going to try mine out today.
I found an olive green one I might pick up if it works.
But I'm looking at other options too.

I've looked at those more than once. What concerns me is the length. At 72 inches it would fit over the whole hammock. But then I don't have the cash flow to go buy one and try it out. I would not want to just have it around me in the hammock. That wouldn't work for me. YMMV
I may be slow... But I sure am gimpy.

coghlan's doesn't mention the weight on their site. I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if this did NOT weigh 4 oz.

but I can't say for sure.

    Nevermind

    Nevermind.
I just hung my hammock and tried it.
    It will not work.
It's not long enough and there's really no way to hang it AROUND the hammock without making a hole in it.
    Plus that white is obnoxious!

    Back to the drawing board.
Maybe I'll just have to get used to what's on it.
I just wish it was a little further away from my face/body.

order some noseeum from www.owfinc.com . The cheapest place I found last time I looked. It's easier to sew than you think.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

    Yes, but

    I can get the noseum.

What I'd like to know is if anyone has make a bugnet based on exactly the same design that comes with the Speers hammock, but made it wider so it hangs higher?

Would this even work, or would it fall in your face or close in on you?

Is there a pattern for the bug bivy I've seen around on these posts anywhere?

IMO when you have already the infrastructure on the Speer to attach a bugnet, then a bug-bivy just adds weight without really dealing with what is bothering you.

Look at pictures of the Claytor hammock and its bugnet. You have 3 tabs in a row at each end. You can put a stick through those tabs, creating a separation on the top of the net that is maybe a foot and a half wide. You then need extra lines to go from those sticks to some attachment (may want something that stretches here). So I'd say yes, you could make a wider bugnet and add this kind of thing to pull it up and away from your face.

I've done this a couple of times with sewn-in bugnets and am happy with the results.
