    Hey Mike,

Goldsboro isn't that much to see...if you blink you will miss it. I assume your folks were Air Force. Nothing to do and no where to hike in G-boro... If you just want to see NC I recommend the Outer Banks or the Mountains. Hot Springs and Franklin.

    Thanks for the welcome.

yeah, the AF base there is named after Seymore Johnson (i guess he was a midget) and was possibly related to Seymore Butts. True story!

except Cliffs of the Neuse... otherwise, you have to be a hunter to enjoy the local woods.

Being so close to the coast is not too bad.

Cliffs of the Neuse is good for a short day. None of the loops are more than 1/2 a mile though and even if you string them together it gets a little boring. That and in the spring, summer and fall it's pretty crowded so there is no solitude. Being close to the coast is nice but still a 2 hour drive. Nothing to do IN G-boro for sure.

At least you don't live in Kinston!

For 12 years my family and I drove to the coast from Greensboro every other month, and sometimes once a month, all year 'round, to sail to Ocracoke, Cape Lookout, Turnagin Bay, Broad Creek, and other places on the Neuse River and Pamlico Sound. We were always envious of folks from Goldsboro who sailed with us.

When my wife was diagnosed with MS, and could no longer get on and off a dock, we bought a 13' Scamp camper for $100. Now we look for places within an hour's drive. As you'll see at Hot Springs, our Scamp sprouts hammocks when the kids are with us.
