Thanks for the suggestions, I'm going to try a new pillow and those neck stretches first and see what happens.
It's funny you mentioned the muscles running from the ears to the sternum because I noticed when I stretch in the morning, I can feel my sternum "cracking" slightly. Will mention that to my chiropractor next visit and see what he has to say

Debi, I use the WM inflatable but only half inflated. When climbing into the hammock it is placed over my left shoulder. I normally start on the back and really don't require much support as the edge of the hammock forms a support then. If I roll to my left the bulk in the center of the pillow is under my left ear. It is amazing on waking in the morning to find the pillow still in place. So far have never experienced any neck issues that could be attributed to the hammock or pillow. Good luck.

When I first started hanging I did not use a pillow at all. Then I tried a regular bed-sized pillow. no good! Then I happened to see an "airline sized" pillow lying around and thought I would try that. It was perfect and just the right size and weight and much better than rubbing my head agains the nylon all night. can anyone say static generator?

If the temp is a little cool around your neck, it can cause you to scrunch your shoulders and cause some muscles to knot up, I will sometimes wear an extra t-shirt (think scarf) just around my neck to keep it warmer. I also have a piece cut out of an old pr of sweat pants that I use if I remember to carry it. :-)
