    LWRSF > Arbuckle Tract

It would be a sin if I didn't start this out by saying I had the fantastic honor and privilege of meeting fellow forum member samsara and his buddy Scooby while doing an overnight at his forest!! Wow, the conversation we had was great, he gave me plenty food for thought, took a gander at my setup (and he didn't even whistle the Sanford and Son theme song when he was looking at it ) and I could see in his eyes the passion he has for the forest and hammocking. Now if my bird brain can remember all the info he shared with me, I'll be good to go. Thank You Dave I'll be back, even if there is a tornado warning (sorta' inside joke).

The weather there was somewhat typical early summer Florida: muggy at times, breezy at times, sweltering hot at times but that's all part of the experience. Tried out my new Sawyer Squeeze after checking the threads and reading reviews (and if it's good enough for olddog, then it's fine in my book). No problems with it at all, modified it a touch so I can hang it from a branch and use it like those fancy smanchy gravity filters!!

It is a great forest, good trails and scenery. Seen a couple of fish in the creek, a couple of "water birds" fishing in the creek and a gopher tortoise(?) on my hike out. During my chat with samsara, we talked about the Lakeside camp, so I headed over to it and checked it out. Yup, that's next. There was a little water in the creek, which it rained last night so that probably helped. I ended up taking something like 120 pictures but not to blow any servers out of the water, I'll just attach a couple or so. Some of the pics were taken with the phone and some with a regular digital.....

I'm glad you had fun! We got another nice rain this evening so the little stream near Lakeside should have plenty of water for you. Don't forget that you have plenty of time to learn so you don't need to remember what I told you... it's good to get some new perspectives too and not just mine The important part is to get out in the woods and enjoy yourself.

Glad you were able to make it out to what is becoming one of our favorite playgrounds. Wish that you would have been able to make it on our last hike & hang. Looking forward to getting togeather sometime. This past weekend would have been perfect but would have been short notice but the temps were good.
Most of us end up poorer here but richer for being here. Olddog, Fulltime hammocker, 365 nights a year.

Arbuckle may well be my favorite place in all of Florida...but that's mostly cuz of the 2-legged wildlife I have met there, I bet. Thanks for the trip report and pictures!
