My First Trip Hanging - Ozark Highland Trail

I had my first backpacking trip with my hammock this last weekend. There was one other hanger who had less experience than me, which is scary, but we all survived and had a great time. I could not have been more happy with my DD Hammock. The second night I was able to go without my tarp, which was an awesome experience. The temps got down into the low 30's, but everything worked perfectly and I was nice a warm.

A quick plug for the Ozark Highland Trail is in order. That was my first time on that trail and it was impressive. It was extremely well maintained and had great scenery. It seemed like a place that was made for a trail. As always, it didn't happen if I don't include photos, so a few pictures of my setup and some trail highlights.

I included this picture because I could not believe how they had these campsites set up. They have built stone chairs all around the designated fire pit. Nice touch OHTA!

Looking through my DD Hammock to the other hanger in the group relaxing in his ENO doublenest.

We did Section 3. I don't remember the exact mileage, around 20. Great section of trail. Just be careful, from the trailhead at Cherry Bend, the trail starts across the road. There is another trail that exits from the parking lot, as we found out, that is not the right trail.

Congrats on a successful first trip. Backpacking is AWESOME. Nothing quite like getting out away from the car and feeling part of nature.

Nice. This is on my to-do list. I've done ERL and BRT, but haven't done OHT just yet. Low 30s sounds like a good test. Glad you stayed warm. Thanks for posting the pics.

Great to see your first trip was a good one! Can you recommend some really good trails up there? I went into the Ozarks when I was a kid and would love to hit them again.
