Since spring I have been using all of my available time to hike as much of the AT as I can. I have a goal to finish it in 10 years. Up until this point I have been a tent and shelter camper. Saturday night I crossed GA off my list and slept in a hammock for the first time. Except for taking a nap in it on a day hike a few weeks ago I had not even gotten into it, But I have been reading a lot on here and had the company of an experienced hanger. My Warbonnet Superfly arrived Friday afternoon and I just had time to pull it out of the bag and make sure it was in fact a tarp.
The hike was from Dicks Creek Gap in GA to Deep Gap in NC. We camped at Muskrat Creek Shelter. The forecast was for rain but when we went to bed it looked like we would not get any. Wrong. Sometime in the night it started raining hard. I had tied the doors of the tarp open and was too comfortable to get up and close them. I wasn't feeling any rain. That was one of the best nights sleep I have ever had in the woods. I am a light sleeper and wake up frequently anyway but this time I didn't feel the need to change positions when I woke up. The temps were in the low 60's. I was using a Big Agnes 30 degree sleeping bag with a BA insulated air mattress. I was neither cold nor hot all night. It was perfect. I look forward to the next time I can sleep in it.
