    Ikea GÅRÖ hammock stand mod

So I read in another thread about Ikea's GÅRÖ hammock stand and how it would fit the ENO DN. I picked one up to use in my yard since I lack trees and my Handy Hammock stand hasn't come in yet.

I had to disconnect my ridgeline to make it fit, but it did and the sag is pretty perfect.

Then I wondered if I could rig a way to add my rain fly to it. I removed the end caps to see what I had to work with. The diameter is about 2"

I figured I could fit a 1.5" PVC pipe in there so I went to Lowes to see what I can find. I came home with a 10' section of 1.5", two 45* male to females and two 90* female to females

I planned on using the 45* male to female to stick into the stand and extend the PVC pipes out. I had to take the dremel to grind down some plastic to make it fit

My orginal idea was to come out two feet and then use the 90* to come up a foot.

But the laws the physics didn't like that idea too much so I removed the 1 foot section and tied off on the 90* to see if it would work.

The line wasn't very secure so I made a trip back to Lowes and picked up some eyebolts(1/4"), nuts and washers. I put em in the pipe and it worked great.

Now that seems like a really good price for a stand and a great mod to add to it!

    Great addition! Very clever solution.

I also like this style of stand but have a bit of trouble getting a good setup in them - especially with 11 foot hammocks. Those end bars just don't go high enough.

Maybe I am just not seeing the final picture load or something like that, but I don't see the final finished product - the stand with the tarp installed. I bought a couple of these stands last week and was considering not only how to attach a rainfly, but how to get the tie outs to work on my deck.

EDIT: My bad - my work blocked some of the pictures. Nice work!!!

Try tying them off to a Kettle weight, or some other type of heavy dumbbell.

I have the fly in the snakeskin still. I didn't get a picture of it deployed. I have space next to my deck for staking it. I wasn't planning on using it with the fly on the deck.

I like the mod. Great job! What is the top width of the stand without the mod?

    Very clever mod!

Although I wouldn't want to backpack with it, it's totally portable for car camping.
