    climbing nuts for suspension anchoring

Just thought I would share this.

I was hanging the other day at a local spot, and I decided to use my climbing nuts to anchor my hammock into two boulders instead of using trees. Anyone every try this? It worked very well!

I've seen someone do that before. Nice to have that option.

I've used climbing gear to hang in a cave overnight. Much better, IMO, than sleeping on the damp, dirty floor.

I was curious about this too. I don't know much about climbing gear. Anyone have any recommendations about what kind of these to purchase?

I have had to do this once. I didn't have any climbing gear with me, but I used the natural precursor to the "nuts", I slipped a small rock into a crack and then tied around that.

I have always carried, when in the higher alititudes and near tree line,,3-4 diff. sizes for exactly what you showed in your pic. Works great. I carried same ones for emergency kit as well for making Z-lines in emergencies while whitewater kayaking years ago. They just work perfect for what your using them for. Mine are Black Diamond types. Stay safe and only hang as to how far you want to fall in case of failure.

No reason why it should not work - anything that will stop a fall will be safe to hang with. ;-)

It occurs to me that folks who plan on doing this with natural materials should also pack a couple of feet of throw away webbing for a short sling. Rock can be hard on gear.
    YMMV

For smaller cracks, these will get you out of trouble...or into it.
I always carry a couple just in case I get caught out on a ragged ridgeline somewhere
& have to hunker down to wait out the bad weather.

....just practice with them before you head off into the wilderness.

Those are pretty cool, they have more of a camming motion.
