    FS: Thommen 15000 ft Altimeter

For Sale shipped to CONUSA for $95.00

If you like "analog" instead of digital (GPS readings), this Thommen 15000 ft Altimeter is a classic. It comes with a leather case I stitched myself with one of those Awl Stitchers we have ... all bought at one time or another.

As such, it is kind of a Beauty and the Beast combination. The beauty of the Thommen and the beast of my Frankenstein-isque leather case.

If I can find it, I may have the original box and manual. But the instructions are basically to look at it and read the elevation. At known elevations you can reset it for better calibration. If you are staying at a fixed elevation and you see the Altimeter changing, you know a weather change is on its way (a feature, not a bug).

Ooooohhh! Want! But I just bought a Peet Bros. Model 88 (almost as nice).

Which model Thommen is that? How many jewels in the movement? How much does it weigh?

    David,
Thank you for your inquiry. There is no model number on this but there is a flange at the top that says 15000 ft. That is, this model is designed for 15000 ft max. I got it during my Mt Rainier climbing days - hardly any need to go higher than 15,000 feet in CONUSA.

Says it has 19 jewels. It does look nicer than many I've seen on an Auction site. Those look like cheaper plastic models. I'm not saying the case is metal, just higher grade plastic.

Weighs about 3 oz., but if the weight is a consideration, one might want to consider the wisdom of hiking where you'd want an altimeter.

I did my mountaineering B. R. J. (before Ryan Jordan). The honor wasn't is how little you could carry, but how much (within reason). We all hoped we had some mutant Sherpa gene.
