Question: Making a new tarp which side out?

I'm making a new tarp and don't know which side should face out. There is a smoother side that looks like it is coated with silicone and the other side is more textured with the ripstop nylon? Does it matter? Any suggestions I'd appreciate.

Silnylon isn't a coating, it is impregnated into the fabric. Are you certain it is silnylon and not polyurethane coated? Where'd you get it from?

I'm not sure what it is. It could be polyurethane coating. Would it make a difference in tarp application?
    I got it from walmart.

Nope, although PU coating makes it a bit heavier. I would put the smooth side up (towards the sky).
