    daffodil flats

there's an unusual place in the middle of no where (linville gorge, nc) called daffodil flats.
the reason it's there is because it's the site of an old homestead (1800s i believe) of one of the few that actually lived in that rugged place in years past.
i maybe should have gone a week or two earlyer to catch them in their peak bloom, but i'm planning to go this weekend if anyone close enough would like to go.
i've never been to this site but it shouldn't be to hard to find. but the trail down to it is steep. i suspect the trail back up will be steep to but i'm checking into another, less steep way to get there. perfect place to hang a hammock. ...tim

you can't get there from here... but if you take pitch-in trail, which is on the west side & probably one of the steepest trails down into the gorge, to the linville gorge trail that parallels the river, then take a left (go south), it is somewhere down there
i'll be talking to those on the linvillegorge yahoo group to find out more about another, easyer route in, coming from the MTS trail & going north.
that trail is not an official trail & not on the map.
i'll get back to you w/ more details.
i had planed to go even if i went by myself, but it looks like my friend jerome is going to go, & maybe your sewing instructor???

Those are the best hikes. Nothing on the map or where everyone goes. Somewhere out of the way worth the extra effort getting there.

If I was in your part of the world I would be in. Maybe another year.

Doesn't look like I'm going to make it, unfortunately. I have a prior engagement with the Boss that I forgot about. Oh well - next time. I'd definitely be up for a trip later this month if anybody wants to try one.

Me too. I can't go on your Daffodil flats trip, but maybe the next one. Schedule is really tight right now. Take some pictures of the flats for me.
