Mountnman...... The smoke thing is sooo true.. People think I am crazy when I tell them this...... Woody....It is a great idea sir... Go for it..... Justin...Yes, I have sleep only clothes.. Usually light weight long johns.. And fresh merino wool socks..
We would be one step closer to world peace, if everyone slept in a hammock..

I also bring a pair of long johns just for sleeping. I have a 0 degree sleeping bag, and an under-quilt. I stay very warm. I also carry a "little bug" wood stove for cooking. the heaviest thing I carry is water... or an animal over my shoulders!

I got into hammocks for this very reason. I hunt year round, almost weekly. TX is mostly private land so my bow stands are already set up at my main spots on the ranch. I hunt with a longbow and use Lone Wolf Alpha stands and climbing sticks. I could still easily carry it all at once. Camp a ways away. You'll be fine. Or strike camp and haul it all up into the tree with you.

Glad to find a thread about hunting and hammocking. I am new to the hammock thing and I am looking forward to using it in camp this year as well as doing some other overnights. I plan on doing an elk trip next year and want to use it for spike camp. And maybe using it during the early season for an afternoon nap without having to walk all the way back to the truck.

After a hike I met up with a friend Elk hunting. We set up camp close to where he's often seen Elk crossing a clearing. We set up in dead of night, even. The ground was sloped, rooted and a bit boggy, but that's where hammocks shine in hunting. You aren't forced into tent sites or your truck. I'm surprised it's not more common.

I do small game hammock hunt/camp overnighters on private land by me every so often - do the no cooking/stove thing while I'm at it.

If I could combine the above with canoe travel also, then most of my current favorite outdoor pursuits are covered

I'm pretty new to hammock camping, but have been taking my longbow to the mountains in Colorado for a couple of years now. I'm looking forward to combining the two next month during elk season. I'll let you all know how it goes. Even if I don't fill my tag, it'll be "good for the soul".

I always thought this would be a great idea too. Only for bow season though. My only concern was having to drag out my deer and carry my pack.

Drag 'em BOTH, if dragging's easier.
Or, just quarter your hoofer; hang the heavier trotters, and pack out the lighter fore's & back straps.
Return for the rears when you're fresh.

If there is snow I could use a sled to drag them both ^^^. Guess I could get a game cart too. I hunt 2 miles away from any road so it is a bit of a hike. I like the idea of sleeping out there instead of hiking in the dark.
