I always make 2 trips. Deer first, gear second.
I made a hammock seat for ground hunting today after reading a DIY post. 5.5 oz, quiet and comfortable.

I did it while bear hunting recently. Despite being worried about an elk running into me, I slept great! Plus it took seconds to tear down camp.
I recently completed my first DIY hammock and tarp specifically for a DIY Mule Deer hunt in the big horn mountains of Wyoming. I'm really looking forward to it!

I hunt solo on NF using the AT to access some great spots most others are not willing to walk to. With food/water/weapon and heavy 7lb external frame pack with meat shelf I am close to 50 lbs. for a 3-4 day outing.
Well... this hunting season was a bust, but I was able to "shake out" my gear as far as "hammock camping" goes. I probably spent 10 nights in the mountains without mishaps until my last night when it snowed and the temps dropped into the mid 20's where I was at. I finally had a cold night on my backside in my hammock using two lightweight pads as my underlayment. I will definitely have an underquilt on my Christmas list this year so I can envelop myself in "downy goodness" when I hike, or hunt. IMG_0866.jpgIMG_0870.jpgIMG_0892.jpgIMG_0863.jpg
These are just a few views from the hammock, and a couple of pics of my setup.
