    G'day from Auckland, New Zealand

Hey all, another newbie. I'm waiting on some gear to make its way across the ocean before departing on a wander around some of my favourite spots in the South Island in about five weeks' time.

I'm a terrible ground sleeper thanks to bad joints (osteoarthritis in both hips) so tents are out for me. I'm looking forward to trying hanging as a way around the problem since, well, what sane person wants to spend time inside if they live in New Zealand?

My starting setup will be a WB Blackbird XLC 1.1 double-layer, Mamajamba tarp and a 20 degree incubator UQ from HammockGear, with my down Kathmandu sleeping bag serving as TQ (rated -10C, which is 14F). We'll see how that performs as we'll be heading into winter in this part of the world.

Welcome from Florida. It sounds like you are starting off with a very nice set of gear! I've seen some beautiful pictures of your south island. Enjoy your trip.

Welcome to the trees. I'd love to get to your country some time, from the pics I see it looks awesome.
Be sure to test you're gear at home to work out any little fiddle factors, and you'll be enjoying the hang life in no time. There is a lot of knowledge on this forum so if you have any questions just ask. Looking forward to pics of your trip.

I'm jealous of the countryside you have to tromp around in, enjoy swingin' in the breeze!

Will do I'm sure. I don't have a back yard but there's a fair bit of forest around that can be enjoyed, so long as I'm not hanging from any protected 100 year old kauri trees
