At this time May 5-11 and June 7-20 ... in that range is still good for me. I assume you all are better off on weekends?? I will have to block out dates with my agent .... soooooo.....
Flies and skeeters just emerging but doable. Still some ice and snow on the trail in early May .... not awful but there in parts.

from Indy...a short 13-14 hrs, so we would need to make it at least 2-3 days to make it worth drive time while, IMO

Assuming logistics work out, we could share a ride...

This thing is getting legs...we should get serious as a trip like this involves vacation time (for me) and I need to nail down what I have and what I using...lots of ideas and no concrete plans

Car pooling should work out well. Ohio and Indiana come west to syncrhonize with Illinois. HF-midwest heads north to pick up FF in Madison maybe. Then north to Duluth and beyond!

I need to be near computers and email the last week of May, up to maybe the 28th. After that I'm uncommitted right now to anything major work-wise or family-wise well into June.

Well.. I will still be walking from Hot Springs to Damascus during the May dates so I wont be able to make that time slot

. The June dates might work for me though!

I'm hoping to be relocated to Ohio or Indiana by June. This would be awfully tempting but if I am relocated... starting a new job might not be the best time to wander off into the northern woods.

I just went back and looked at the dates suggested by shug, and May 5-11 is good, as well.

I do hereby suggest sometime in the dates June 11th through the 14th. That is a Thursday through Sunday.

Suggested Sections
1) Castle Danger to Gooseberry Falls ....9.1 miles. South end of trail so quicker to get to and get to hiking. Moderate to strenuous... Parking at both end of sections so we could split and meet and some could walk shorter going south. Parking at Gooseberry SP requires a sticker ... available for three or four days. south end of trail free parking.
Feel free to check out the link and suggest your favorite. I can comment on those sections that I have done. Personally I have not hiked a lot of it north of Grand Marais. Kurt Papke has and I am certain he will chime in.....

Just another option, not quite as far to drive, for those who have never done this section of the North Country Trail (which the SHT is part of), see the following. Highly recommended (I grew up in these woods.)

I'm getting married that weekend and I'm assuming my wife would have an objection to me missing the service. If for some reason the dates change though, I would like to join in. Well, more like if there were to be another one late summer or fall.
