    Winter Freebird

So right now I just have a WBBB. I am looking to purchase a hammock for the winter and for backpacking when bugs are not an issue. I have an underquilt, so was looking to get a single layer Freebird. From looks alone I was between the 1.8 Night Grid Camo and the 1.9 ACU Camo. Which of these do you guys prefer, and is there a different fabric I should be looking at? I did notice these are different widths. Will this come into play? Also, for someone that is 5'11", is the 11' hammock worth the extra weight for a better lay? Thanks for the input everyone.

I don't think you'll notice any difference in warmth due to your fabric choice. That is more related to your insulation. However, you might want to consider a hammock with a solid overcover like the Dangerbird or the Thunderbird. The overcover really adds significant warmth, especially when it's windy. Last winter, when camping on a really windy day, using the overcover kept my insulation dry and warm by keeping the blowing snow out of my hammock.

I have a 10' WBBB 1.1 DL, and an 11' Darien UL 1.0 SL from Dream Hammock. I personally see no difference in the lay between the two. I an 5' 10" tall and weigh 175.

Perhaps if the Darien were a 1.1 DL like the WBBB, the difference in the lay may be more noticeable.

I think the lays are similar because the BlackBird has a footbox that makes it lay like a 11ft hammock. Most other 10ft hammocks won't lay like it's 11ft so the comparison is unique to the BlackBird, in my opinion.

Hi have both, an 11' winter gnome(custom) in 1.8 Night Grid Camo and a Darien 11' with 1.9 ACU Camo.
I just live South of you if you would like to see/lay in them.

If this isn't a generous offer I've never seen one.
