New to Hammocks

Hi all,

I am not new to camping or backpacking but am looking at buying a hammock. I have boiled it down to either a ENO or a Hennessy. The ENO area a little cheaper, but not much once you include a tarp and bug shield. Any thoughts from experienced hangers?

I would do a little more research and check out the cotttage vendors. There are some super hammocks out there, like Warbonnet, PapaSmurf's Dream Hammocks, Tree to Tree Trail Gear and many more. That is just my $.02. Good luck to you.

If you've boiled it down to those two, go with the HH. You get more for your money. However, if you are open to suggestions, do what Baja said and check out some of the great vendors on here. I loved my HH, but I also love the Warbonnet Blackbird!

I will echo what everyone else has mentioned. There are a lot of options out there. What is your camping style. Do you winter camp, are there a lot of bugs in your area? Do you want a single layer, double layer, bug net, no bug net. If you have looked into all these areas and still come up with either the ENO or the HH. I would say go with the HH but I don't have any experience personally with the Eno. If you have not done any research into the cottagge industries definitely look into the ones Baja mentioned. Brandon makes some great hammocks at Warbonnet equipment, Papasmurf also makes some fantastic hammocks in a variety of styles.

Thanks. I don't winter camp, but do camp in cooler weather when it does get down to say 30-40 at night. And yes the bug net is a must. I am in Missouri and mosquito's are not rare here.

So I am still a little confused. What is the difference between single and double layers and what are the pros and cons of both?

Where are you at in MO? We've had hangs in both the St Louis and Kansas City areas. Meeting up with some folks and looking at their setups might go a long way in helping you to sort through things.
