    Tarp Tensioner

Has anyone ever tried using their JRB or homemade tarp tentioners to hang the tarp from the trees? It seem to me like these lines would also stretch over night and the ability of the tentioners to keep this taut would be good?

I have used tensioners on the ridge line tie outs but they are really not needed. Tensioners on the side do a fine job of keeping everything taut.

Yeah, if you use the tensioners on the ridgeline tie-outs, the tarp can end up making a lot of noise during the night in the wind. I think JustJeff talked about this awhile ago, too.

Just Jeff was saying that if the wind is blowing and it's raining, you could have your tarp blow off center, leaving you very wet. (tensioner stretch?)

Good points. I think I'll stick with the regular cord.

    Yep, I remember that now.

After his comments, I bought some extra large surgical tubing, and was going to make some "Heavy Duty" Ridge line tensioners, just to play with and see if it mitigated the "off center" problem. Then again, the weight penalty probably isn't worth it. Fun exercise, nonetheless.

I just finished making my "heavy duty" tensioners, and I'm dying to get out and do some camping but there is no way I'm gonna do it until it warms up around here significantly, or I get something better than a z-lite pad for the bottom of the hammock.

I used the JRB tensioners on my tarps ridge line and my side lines (10x10 on a diagnole) on my 07 thru hike it worked great for me I had no issue with wind noise, I think it may have helped with that as it kept my tarp taunt. Saying that though, there were nights that were so windy on some ridges that no matter what you you did or how tight your lines were, you were gonna have tarp noise. usaaly I was so tired that I easy feel asleep anyway. If you have the extra lines try them and see if you like them.
