I don't know if there is a slicker way to do it, but that's exactly what I have on mine.

I had hollow toggles a while back and I secured the webbing inside the toggle so it resembles the tip of a shoe lace.
Don't let life get in the way of living.
i leave mine attached via marlin spike hitch when packed away, then move them up and down the webbing during setup when needed. never lost any of my toggles with this method.
I do exactly what you did (tie a loop of brightly colored mason's line to each toggle, then lark's head each loop onto each loop of my straps.)
HOWEVER, I run the mason's line THROUGH the arrow shaft and tie the loop. I make the loop of mason's line big enough to slip over my hand to hold temporarily while I get the strap off the tree. Then lark's head around the loop of the strap and stow.
No drilling required.

I switched to carabiners, used as toggles as they are not climbing rated, so that the whoopies don't slip off the toggle when I adjust the hammock. I've also found it very convenient for hanging gear on.
My tree straps get rolled up on themselves, then a carabiner is rubber banded to either side of the roll. That gets put on top of the hammock in my bishop bag.

My DIY straps have loops on both ends. I have a loop of zing-it running through my toggles and the loop at the hanging end of my strap. I make my MSH, and run the toggle through. When I store my straps, I can roll them up in sort of a flat roll and the toggles just lie parallel with that roll, then I wrap a piece of shock cord around it to keep them neat.
Light weight carabiners get clipped into the loop... 1.5 oz for the pair if I recall correctly...
Live, Laugh, Love, if that doesn't work. Load, Aim and Fire, repeat as necessary...

The slickest way is what Yooz85 said, just leave them in the marlin spike knot. The knot should be tight enough to hold them 'till you hang the next time. Then just pull them out of the hitch and retie. I learned this from Shug.
+1 on the biners, I hang bags all kinds of stuff on them.
