Good one! I bet everyone enjoyed the teaching. You may have started more converts than you know if the Scouts were ground dwellers in the rain. ;-)

There is a thread around here somewhere on that dish. They do a good job of it but I am too cheap to pay them when I can do it well enough on my own for very little money.

I use a cup of minute rice, some dried fruit from a walmart dried fruit package, extra raisins since I like them, butter powder, milk powder, cinnamon, salt, and some brown sugar. All of it is done to taste, so experiment.

I pour boiling water over the mix in my bowl which is in a coozy and let it sit for 10 minutes. I have learned to cut the fruit up into fairly small pieces (dice) so they rehydrate. Thats it.

I like it sweet but you can make it more savory with other spices or ingredients all the way to something like rice pudding if you use cream. It works as a breakfast, dessert, snack, or side dish.

@raleigh-- you are right Sir! We stayed by that group of shelters.

@ GrannyPat and Bill-- I cannot think of a more worthy group to help out. It always does my heart good to see boys being taught leadership, honesty, ethics and morality, while preparing them for the future. There is not enough of that going around. I guess I am getting old enough to appreciate the importance of bringing up the next generation right.

@Fireinmybones-- Yessir! I get to talk about work some more in front of willing victims again!! I mean interested citizens...WOOT!

By the way...I forgot to mention that the 1 cup of minute rice and other ingredients make a good amount of rice so I usually split the mixed dry ingredients in half and vacuum seal it in two packages. One of those packages makes enough for two if you like smaller portions or one large portion.

Trip Report- Boy Scout Rescue Camporee- SAR badge

Awesome trip, and report, Sarge! A trick I like to use instead of drip loops is to get the little plastic closures from various bread bags, then trim the the long side to a point. You can find different sized holes for your lines, they clip on, are adjustable to position up and down the line, and work great! (And are free!). I leave a different color on each end for ease of set/up identification.
