    welcome

Hello from Garner, 15 min. down Hwy. 70. Just a warning, I have been into this only 1 yr. Old4Hats got a hammock and got me interested last spring. One year later I have 5 hammocks. My excuse, well there are several but mostly it is addictive. No really it is a great way to enjoy the wonderful outdoors of this beautiful country. And thanks for your service.

David I cant recommend or know of anything around Smithfield. There are campgrounds off I95 but I cant recommend them since I never hanged there. I do like the Falls Lake campgrounds and going down Hwy 70 to the coast, the Croatan National Forest.

Oh yes I know Hwy 70 to well since I drive it everyday through Garner to Tryon Rd for work. I am going to try to limit myself to two hammocks. Wish me luck. I can see the addiction already. I will tell the wife to hide the checkbook.

I attended my first group hang two weekends ago (the smoked butt hang) but could not stay long. I plan on attending the one at Santee Cooper. Our family used to take family vacations down there. Very nice.

Welcome from SW PA for now. We may need to meet. My wife just took a job at Duke. She starts in June and will be staying with her sister in Clayton, until I can get everything together and find a place in the area to relocate. Always good to have someone around to hike bike and hang with.

Congrats on your wife getting a job in Durham. You will enjoy this area. There are a lot of hammock hangers in the triangle area. What part of Clayton you going to be staying at? Let me know when you get into the area.

    Tacoma96,
Welcome aboard from Knightdale. It sounds like we've shared some of the same trails. I've hiked the MST from Highway 50 to Falls Dam several times now.

My new favorite local activity is biking the Neuse River Greenway from Highway 401 to the dead end in Clayton. There's 26 miles open one way now with 7 more coming next year.

Oh yes I know the Neuse River Greenway to well. Last weekend we parked at the Poole Road Trailhead, did Five miles up and back. Yes the southern end of that greenway ends at Sam Branch in Clayton off Coverbridge Road. Last Fall we parked at the WRAL soccer complex and bicycled to the Falls Lake dam. This is a very nice trail.

The Falls Lake trail is a lot of fun. I am planning on finishing the west side this fall.
