    Boy Scouts and hammocks

Hammocks have been catching on in my troop. I have been rocking the hammock and for a few outings, this one I was set up with my hex tarp in porch mode and my DIY gathered end with quilts. The 2 boys who have full setups started out the first night sharing a tree on the head end, with each having their own tree for the foot end with a jury rigged ENO profly and a 12' Noah's tarp. The second night one of the new youth leaders, and recent Eagle scout, added his hammock to the setup.

The leader seen leaving on the right hand side of the photo made a comment that that was pretty good, but he had set up a three stack once with a ladder for access.

Challenge accepted! It wasn't long before they had a triple stack with three scouts on the ground underneath.

They had plans of sleeping under the stars, but it started getting a little cool and damp so they quickly set up the Noah's tarp over the stack.

The real challenge was for the boy on top (my son) to empty his bladder enough that he would not have to get up in the middle of the night....he was successful.

Now I need to get links to some DIY information for the 3 other scouts that were asking about how to get started hammocking.

    Looked like fun!

DIY'ing as a troop project? Could be fun as well as combining orders.
    YMMV

We know that our Scouts will want to hammock after seeing our set ups this weekend. We have found http://www.magnafabrics.com/category/128.htm, they have fabric cheap. We are thinking we will be able to have the boys make basic gathered end hammocks for less than $10 including a basic strap suspension.

The fabric is cheap, but the shipping is not. See if they will take the fabric off the bolt to reduce shipping.
Keep movin', keep believing and enjoy the journey!

I hadn't looked that far into it yet. Fabric for 20 hammocks, 60 yards, plus shipping is around $100. That is still $5 per hammock. 40 yards, to make 13 hammocks, makes them about $6.25 each.

If you buy some of that fabric, I would like to buy some of it from you.

Looked like they had a great time. Next weekend I am taking my troop on a hike camp out. The first since I decided to start the hammock life. This will be the first time they see me hanging. I am wondering how many of them will want to become converts.
