    HELP - Double-Layer Tablecloth Hammock

I did a search but wasn't able to find any info on building a double-layered tablecloth hammock. I may be making a few for a guy I work with, and he'd like to put a pad between the two layers.

What are your suggestions regarding the attachment of the two layers?

Should I just sew the ends that will be whipped?

Should I sew both ends and one side?

I need the Hammock Forum knowledge to flow.

Looks like you got your answer. Making the tablecloth double layer may end up being more heavy than you really want. Do you not have an UQ and that's why you're doing double layer? Was just curious, no discouragement meant here, as I'm a tablecloth user myself.

I personally use a single layer tablecloth (and love it), but the hammocks in question are for a potential buyer. He doesn't have any hammock gear at all, and he was interested in possibly getting two (one for him the other for a cousin). I think he liked the idea of slipping a pad between the two layers.

I made a double layer tablecloth for my daughter and found that even though I bought the same size tablecloths, they were not exactly the same size as one was a bit wider and the other longer. I started off stitching one end, but then realizing they weren't matched, just gathered and whipped both ends. It's worked fine so far.

Had I known originally that they weren't a match I think I would have skipped the sewing all together and went straight to the whipping.

I made a double-layer tablecloth hammock. I just stitched the two tablecloths together, leaving an opening for pad insert. I then sewed triple-stitched channels on each end and ran continuous loops through them. I prefer channels over whipping.

If you're going to be sewing anyway, why not get some rip stop, instead of the tablecloth? It'll end up lighter weight, and not any more of a hassle. If you have a Hancock Fabrics near you you can get ripstop at 40% off by joining their customer loyalty program (free). just use this coupon: http://www.hancockfabrics.com/viewca...mpaign=coupons

My understanding the benefit of the table cloth was to have a blank that can be whipped quickly with no sewing required. Seems like what you're doing defeats the purpose..and adds extra weight.

Thanks for all the suggestions and tips. So far it's looking like the guy isn't going to commit, but it's the thread is still beneficial for others with the same question.

Keep the comments coming. It seems like everyone has their own way of making them.

I just made two tablecloth double-layers. Mine are channel-end, I just layed one on top of the other and stitched the channel hems. They don't match exactly, but it is not noticeable at all.
