Ti Dutch Clip and tree hugger extensions...

Is it safe to use a Ti Dutch Clip with an Amsteel tree hugger extension.

Scenario would be.... massive trees that are too big for my 7' webbing tree huggers... so I break out the double eye spliced 3' Amteel tree hugger extensions I carry and hook one end to the Ti Dutch Clip and thread the webbing tail through the other eye.

1" webbing or 7/64" Amsteel... Loads are the same... yes?

I can add a photo if this is incomprehensible.

Re: Ti Dutch Clip and tree hugger extensions...

I can't say for sure but it's probably fine, same principle as using whoopie hooks I would've thought.

Only problem I can foresee is the tight angle around the clip, apparently it would derate the line, but then the same could be said about the whoopie hook!?

In short, I don't really know lol I'm sure someone does though!

It's fine for both the clip and hook. The "main" problem is possibly accidently slipping the Dutch Clip out of the Amsteel eye loop before you finish your connection. Or, "main" issue could be if the local Rangers don't like the line extension over webbing.

Either way, it will work fine. Just remember to always inspect your equipment.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you

    Thanks guys.

I'd add some twigs u7nder the Amsteel to protect the tree... just didn't want to be the first to try hanging half and half with Amsteel and webbing.

The Ti Dutch Clip was designed with the angled arms to keep webbing at the strong part of the clip. A line of amsteel would naturally slide to the back corner where the clip is strongest. The point about the amsteel falling out without a load is valid, be careful. Point is to always inspect your gear, especially where any cord meets metal. One of the things you pay for the super low weight is some potential additional wear. We give the inside of the Ti Dutch Clip a really smooth edge and properly positioned the stress on the amsteel should be minimized. All that being said, "any activity has its risks, please understand those risks and take the proper steps to minimize them."
