Awesome, I'm really enjoying reading the stories of how ya'll got your names.

Mine is both. Fibby is short for Anne Fibian. It's now Fibby, Fib or Miss Fibista. I used to catch and study deformed frogs and I'm often down by the water doing frog calls.

Oh, man, you never should have told me Russ' trail name. He's never gonna sleep if I'm in camp 'cause I'll be doing that skit from Chappelle Show when Rick James slaps Charlie Murphy - ALL NIGHT LONG!
"What did the five fingers say to the face?"
"I'm Rick James, b**ch!"
"I hit you tonight? I'm sorry, Charlie Murphy."

Don't have a trail name yet, but I narrowly escaped "dances with snakes" after I stepped on a black snake off trail on a recent trip. Thankfully no one had the quick wit to christen me at that point.

Well, my trail name is Wood! It's been a nockname since I became an adult! A co-worker called me Hollywood for a while because of the Oakley sunglasse that Iwore all of the time. It took about 90 days for him to shorten it to Wood. Now many variants of "Wood" are used by me for forum names, etc. now, it's just "Wood" on the trail.
This past weekend, my brother & I hiked the 20 mile NCT/ MRT loop in Michigan and I gave him his trail name: "Flipper". He kept flipping sticks and branches off of the trail with his hiking pole, hence the trail name.
Great stories guys, keep it up. I enjoy reading them.
My HF name is now my trail name.
My original name two_isles, which is my poker on line name.
I am one that believes that the trail gives you your name.
After 3 different trail stops early on the trail last year, people handed me 2 beers.
(I guess 50 yr women look like they need beer more than any other hikers! )
After that, my hiking buddy BLT (Better Late Than Never) said, "yep. That's it. You're Dos."
Cheers!

As you might have guessed, being stubborn and sometimes a jackass, and with a last name of Skinner, what else (please don't answer that) would they have called me in high school, but Mule?
Predictions are risky, especially when it comes to the future.
I too believe trail names should be given. I have yet to receive one myself but I do get Oscar from the wife (as in Grouch) and it used to be Dad to a bunch of friends as I was the eldest and was watching over the group

I am enjoying this thread. Chiefstryker has been my Internet handle for years but Campfire is the trial name I was tagged with several years ago.
I got it because of my love of campfires, cause it isn’t a camping trip till you have a fire. I was always the scout that set up the fire whether it was dry or wet, regardless of whether there was a fire ban or not. Also I was always the last one to go to bed and would stare into the coals for hours. I also had the monikers Pyromancer (for the ability to coax any fire to life) and Pyromaniac (you can guess why) for a while.
I am a now reformed sensible (for the most part) pyromaniac.
