    Ridgeline through whoopie sling?

I have a DIY hammock that is really tiny. I just bought a Warbonnet Traveler Net for this summer, and when I set it up, I found my ridgeline to be short. Would there be any reason why I couldn't splice a Dyneema 1.9mm line through my whoopie slings (short of the splice but after the locked brummel)?

It seems harmless to me, but I don't know much.

    Thanks!

The area right where the adjustable bury exits the splice is the weak point of the whoopie sling. If you have a decent distance between where the bury of the locked brummel ends and the exit of the adjustable bury, you could try something I suppose. I think you'd be better off making some continuous loops, attaching those to the hammock and then attaching the continuous loops to the fixed eye of whoopie slings with a descender ring, a climbing carabiner, a dutch biner or even a soft shackle. You can then attach the ridgeline to those. That would be better for the three directional forces I would think. This would also allow you to make the continuous loops long enough so you can make a ridgeline to match that of the bugnet.

Bubba is correct, you would be adding a lot of directional force to only a portion of the amsteel in an axis that is not in the manor that the rope is deigned to be loaded. AKA: good chance your slings break and you go boom. Longer hammock and or adding length as Bubba described would be much safer.

Okay. Thanks for the replies. What about if the ridgeline is non-structural and has a touch of slack in it? Does this still create too much stress on the whoopies?

It would likely still not be a good idea to splice through the amsteel.

What about using a length of shock cord with stopper knots or minibiners on both ends. Just tuck the stopper knots or clip the minibiners into the base of the adjustable loops of the whoopies. Just brainstorming.

Bubba has some good ideas. If it's going to be nonstructural you could also try something like prussicks on the whoopies with a whoopie for the ridgeline. You could adjust the height and length for each hang.

If I understood it right, this is what Bubba's first suggestions looks like.

The ridge line there is a whoopie. I have it lark's headed on one end and a soft shackle on the other. About a 11' hammock with 12" continuous loops on the end. I'd say it's just under arms length from me up to the ridge line.
