    Eliminating Static

    Hey guys,

I love my first DIY hammock. Its a simple single layer 1.1, hunter green human-swallower. Its wide and long and just super comfortable, compact, and light. But it has so much static electricity build up on it that its kind of ridiculous. Every time I get out of it, it sticks to me like glue, and snap and crackles as I pull it off. Its not a huge deal other than the fact that it picks up all sorts of debris and dog hair from the charge.
I tried rubbing it down with some dryer sheets. That made it smell nice but did nothing for the static. I also tried spraying it with Static Guard, but was afraid to get too much on it because I wasn't sure how it would affect the fabric. My next solution is to toss it in the dryer with a big handful of dryer sheets and maybe a tennis ball to help move it around. But I really don't want to take all the suspension off to do that.
If anyone has any magic tricks to de-static a hammock easily, please let me know. Any other ideas are welcome.

Never had this happen before. You mentioned picking up debris and dog hair ... is this from inside usage or inside and outside usage.

    Maybe it's your electric personality!

You could use this to your advantage by eliminating the underquilt suspension. The static electricity should make a nice seal!

This is a good question. I have a WBBB and have never had static but I just recently got a DB made from polyester taffeta and it is staticy all the time. Not as bad as you are experiencing but bad enough to be bothersome. I also tried dryer sheets with no luck but that is where I stopped. I sure would like to know a solution to this as well.

I've used Static Guard with no issues so far. Not to say its 100% safe but so far so good.

Debris outside, dog hair inside. I have 2 dogs and one is a husky mix so there is constantly dog hair on me, and as I get out if the hammock the static grabs tons of it

Lol, good idea! The suspension-less UQ, definitely no worries about cold drafts

I have other hammocks that have zero static. My BIAS WWM is great in that respect. Just seems like its this 1.1 2nds material from DIY gear supply. It's got a kind if glossy finish on it, while my WWM is more matte

Good to know. I just don't want to be spraying it all the time, plus that stuff smells awful :-P

My tablecloth hammock had a lot of static initially. However, it went away quickly. I suspect it has something to do with oils from the skin, but what do I know.
