Gear I need through the night, like others have said, goes in the hammock with me. That would be my phone, headlamp, any clothing I might want through the night or fist thing in the morning like gloves, hat extra socks, thermals if I don't start the night with them on. Food is hung up and any other gear is in my pack with pack cover on hung from the head end suspension or on the ground close but under the tarp. Simple works.

That looks like a klemheist knot to me. Or maybe a Prussic. I cant tell from my phone if the line comes out of the middle or one end. if its the middle it would be a prussic.

I was wandering on Just Jeff's site, and he had a gear hammock/Pack cover... Makes sense to me.

I hang mine in my DIY Gear Hammock/Camp Seat. Here is part 2, which shows the different ways that I set it up. Generally, I hang it off of the same tree straps above me, under the tarp:

This is a brilliant, multipurpose piece of gear! I made two and take them on day hikes with my wife for a most comfy chair for a lunch break.

ENO makes a gear hammock you can hang underneath your hammock.

I just picked up an ENO gear slinger, mini hammock for your gear, I admit I haven't tried it yet but I like the concept and it's only $29, and 7oz.

I use 2 cuben dry sacks inside my pack. One for quilts, one for clothing. The one holding my extra clothes goes under knees when sleeping. Ridgeline pocket holds glasses, mp3, and headlamp. Socks are also usually hanging from ridgline down at foot end and anything else that needs drying. Pillow hangs in net sack attached to ridgeline to keep off ground.

The side pocket wing of Blackbird usually seems to hold clothing, gloves, hat, etc. that I'm taking off or putting on during night to stay comfortable. If I'm wearing most all clothing to stay warm in hammock, I'll turn one dry sack inside out and put shoes in it and put that under knees. This is also good to do in freezing weather to keep boots from freezing.

Food, cook kit is in bear bag away from hammock. Rest stays in pack and hangs on hammock suspension under tarp. Bad weather, pack cover goes on it. Nalgene water bottle and shoes about only things under hammock most of time. Unless Nalgene is being used as hot water bottle inside hammock when close to freezing.

I've seen guys hang a second hammock underneath their primary one and slide everything into it, seems like a wonderful solution.
