Insulated Air Mats – Is one side warmer?

    Just an FYI post . . .

Conversations from another thread had me wondering if I should pay attention to which side of my Exped DAM is up when I lay it in the hammock – the grey or black side? Is one side warmer due to how they construct it? So I emailed Exped and they say both sides are equally warm. Answer from Exped below.

    Dear HC,

We have the black side to the upside because it drys faster when wet, but both sides are equal warm.

Yeah, my understanding of the Exped Down-mat is that there are down-filled chambers. So theoretically, the down lofts to fill each chamber, right?

Where something like my Big Agnes insulated air pad has synthetic matting glued to just one surface of the pad.

I believe the synthetic insulation in the exped synmats is glued to both sides as well, so it shouldn't matter with them either.
