What to do with all the extra line?

So I get 2 trees the perfect length apart and oh how nice everything strings up... Expect all the excess line from the whoopies and tarp ridgeline that is now NOT being used because of the nicely spaced trees.

How do you "clean" up all the excess line?

While on the subject, how to coil the guylines before putting them in the stuff sack?

I was thinking about just making a couple of shock cord loops with cordlocks to just coil up the line and then "bungee" it.

I just let my extra line hang. My whoopies are situated so that it works as a drip cord. I've always been told that stuffing lines makes them less likely to tangle, but then they're harder to find of you have several in there.

I let extra lines hang as well. As for coiling rope, hold your hand open and wrap the line around your thumb and little finger in a figure eight pattern. Wrapping it this way makes the line just fall out of the coil with no tangling at all.

Let it all hang out. Occasionally I'll try a slippery half-hitch with a long ear just to keep some of it off the ground. Most times I don't waste the time, like if the ground is dry.

    How I deal with my whoopie tails;

    Enter tarp from either end
Wind the tails that are dangling around one ankle
Stand on whoopie tail with other boot
    Trip over violently
Grab underquilt on way to floor
    Repair underquilt with Duck tape
Remove the the 10 sticks from the Amsteel that have woven themselves into the braid and untie the unknown knot it has tied itself into
Repeat from other end of tarp.

    Hope this helps

I put out my thumb and little finger and wrap the line around them, figure 8 style. I then finish by wrapping some line around the middle, and tucking the end through the loop and over, like in slides 16 thru 21 of this animation.

It looks way more complicated than it is. Once you do it a few times, it is automatic, even in the dark. I coil all of my lines like this for storage, and will do the hanging ends if it starts to bother me.

That is hilarious - Thanks for the laughs. And, yes - I've done that!

+1 on this method. Read a thread on HF about little critters investigating the hanging lines at night so I figure-8 the slack - same as if I was putting the tarp away. It really becomes an easy habit after about 20-30 tries - it's almost automatic and I seldom wrap the cord around my ankles anymore... - and No Tangles
