    AZ>Flagstaff?>Suggestions?

I saw a while back dejoha mentioned that there had been some organized hangs in AZ in times gone by. I was wondering if there are some recurring ones or if there is any interest in getting one going?

I'm from the White Mountains of AZ, and I went to school at NAU in Flagstaff, so either area is of interest to me. My family hiked Havasupai this year (before I had even heard of camping hammocks) and that truly would have been heaven in a hammock!

Another spot that come to mind is the Blue Ridge Reservoir (canoe access, of which I have access to 5 canoes for $5 each per day). I wouldn't want to limit the number of people who could attend by only having 5 canoes as I would hope for as large a turnout as possible.

I know there are many awesome places that I've never been, so if anybody else has suggestions as to other places or times/seasons...

all of those spots are above 6,800 feet. i'd wait till late June for that, or spend some time down here in the lower/upper sonoran. what dates do you have in mind?

Summer/Spring would probably allow more people to attend, especially those without cold weather gear. I can make my schedule bend better than most, so if there are other things to work around I can do that. I will post dates that would work for me once I get home as a starting point.

Havasupai requires reservations which can be limited at times, but well worth it.

I think we have a good amount of hangers from AZ, we just need to organize a hang. I keep wanting to set something up, but it does take time, and I'm not able to do it right now. I'm happy to participate, but I need to take a second seat to the organization at this time.

I'm in Phoenix. My son and I would be down for a hang. We are new to this and eager to learn more. We are not set up well for very cold temps yet so that would limit us right now at altitude.

I'd be interested. Also limited by lack of cold weather gear and time, but I'll definitely watch this thread.

I was thinking about a simple 1 or 2 night hang, but here are the times I have off (that include a weekend) starting in May and ending in September:

    May 3 - May 8
    May 31 - June 2
    June 7 - June 12
    July 12 - July 17
    Aug 2 - Aug 4
    Aug 9 - Aug 11
    Aug 16 - Aug 21
    Sep 6 - Sep 8
    Sep 13 - Sep 15
    Sep 20 - Sep 25

This list obviously needs some narrowing down. That's where all of you come in!

Just read your biography nojope, and I understand where you're coming from. The first camping trip my wife and I went on was in a tent and was a total disaster. She had never camped, and said she would never go again unless we got a trailer. I still have the 11 foot camp trailer that I bought when I was 19 to accomodate. However, she's more than willing to try this hammock thing. She has actually spent more nights in my BB than I have!

I'm unavailable the last weekend of June but the rest of the dates work for me.

I'm brand new to this too (bought the hammock last month) and being new is the reason I was curious about a hang. I have PM'd dejoha and am hoping he would be able to make it as he seems to have a wealth of information that we could all benefit from.
