For weight vs. coverage vs. price, it's really hard to beat the Tadpole in a manufacturer-bought tarp (DIY will likely come out cheaper, if you already have the skills).

As to the tip-off? Well, my way is to tell my wife when she asks; she tells everyone else what I'm looking for. Don't know if that'll work for you.

    Hope it helps!

Of course, you could just be direct and mention that's what you'd like. Works for me. :-)

    To add to your options...

    5) Go all "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" on them. Just swap images of Devils Tower with the tarp you want..

It looked like someone was building some Turtle Dog Stands at 0:48. Maybe you could ask for one of those, too.

    A c note is $100

I have an Arrowhead Toxaway. I wanted a 12' ridgeline and it seemed the best I could find for the cost. Having said that, others were close but I wanted green and the Toxaway was the only one I could find in that color at the time.

I really like it and thoroughly recommend it.

For 30 more you have a Superfly...20oz rigged with lines and in mountaingoat skins. I will never camp with out tarp doors again!! The thing is cavernous.
Will second the Hennessy Hex good coverage and virtually bombproof.

Best bet just tell her what you want os do what I did buy it for yourself and wrap it up from your "Secret Admirer". Should have seen her face.
