Camping on Fontana Lake

Looking for info on sites #86 and #90. Will be kayaking to sites 3 day trip. This will be my first In a kayak. I've been In a canoe plenty of times. I'm the only one in hammock. Are the sites hammock frirndly? Have not been In this part of park before.

I was at #86 a couple of weeks ago. Finding a place to hang was fairly easy, the only problem being that there is a lot of poison ivy.

The lake level was very high but even so there is about a half mile walk from the landing to the campsite. I didn't know that ahead of time and found it to be hard work hauling all of my stuff. If I were to do it again I would bring a backpack for the haul.

Its very popular with fishermen there and is the sort of place that people come in and set up a big camp with several people and several boats and stay for a few days. Everyone was friendly and I didn't hear any noise from any other group.

Its very pretty there and it would be a good base for day hikes. The former town of Proctor is interesting too.

I came in from Double Island (#78) but went straight back to my launch point at Cable Cove. It took me a little over two hours in strong winds.

I haven't been to #90 but I understand that the camping area is close to the landing site.

Campsite 90 at Eagle Creek and 86 at Hazel Creek are both reservation site that need to be reserved, you may already know this I'm sure. They are both really good fishing areas, especially if you fly fish and head upstream.

Bears can be a problem at times, make sure you hang your good smelly food stuff away from your camp area.
