Just visited the Fountainbleau State Park on Lake Pontchartrain in Louisiana and can report that they do allow hammock camping, now. The place is a mess, however since they're still recovering from Hurricane Isaac of last year. The park manager confessed he hadn't ever seen anyone camping with a hammock and I offered to show him a set up even though I was already booked into a hotel in New Orleans for the night. Did so, sloppily I'm afraid but they got the idea and seemed taken with hammocks. One guy wanted to know specifically how much it cost -- which was cheap since it's my lightest traveling hammock, a Mosquito from that Maine company. Anyway, be aware that it appears the word has spread in Louisiana State Parks and they're open for hammock camping.
