PA AT hike in sept. help!

Michaux state forest area is awesome. Not a ton of views from above but lots of streams and generally good scenery. Campsites are everywhere in this section.

Port Clinton to Slatington/Lehigh Gap is about 40mi per my 2009 Thru Hikers's Companion and within that stretch is "The Pulpit and Pinnacle" which are some of the best views in PA.

You could also cut it to 27 miles by ending at PA Rt 309 but there are quite a few overlooks between 309 and Lehigh Gap which may be worth taking in (Bake Oven Knob, and Bears Rocks).

I did a day hike of the pulpit and pinnacle earlier this year with my family (9mi loop) and it was great. I do that hike once every couple of years...never grows old.

    Enjoy your trip.

Bake Oven Knob is great on an awesome day.
The Knife's edge there is quite the challenge....wouldn't recommend it doing it alone, but can be done.

If you want views - then the section Chris K suggests is good - all ridge walking with some excellent views - especially when the leaves are off the trees.

+1 on Downhill Trucker's suggestion as well - the section from route 30 up to Boiling Springs is excellent and there are some nice views around Pine Grove (Sunset Rocks, Pole Steeple) as well as some other interesting bits - The Rock Maze, AT halfway point, Iron Masters Mansion, etc. This is one of my favorite sections of the AT in PA.
    see you on the trail,
    Mike
