3 season Temperature Target for DIY UQ?

I'm about to embark on my first DIY UQ project and am working out the dimensions using 'CatSplat's Differential Cut Underquilt Calculator.'

I'm still VERY new to hanging and am not sure what temp range I should be aiming for on this UQ...

This project will be for my wife's Hammock (HH Expedition Classic). She is pretty new to camping in general, so I don't see her coming out when it starts getting too chilly. Most of our camping will be done in South-Western BC (Pacific NorthWest region).

Given that I have no problem making a second 'winter' UQ if the need arises, what is the suggested temperature rating for a summer/3-season UQ?

I've already got the material on it's way, and plan to order the down shortly - I found a pretty good deal on 800 fp duck down.

    Thanks for your help!

Figure out the coldest temperature she'd want to be out in, and then add 10* F/5.5* C to it to cover unexpected dips in the low for the night.

What you're asking isn't really, "What's an appropriate 3-season temperature rating?" What you're really asking is, "How cold does my wife want to camp in?"

Once you have that piece of data, the rest is easy.

    Hope it helps!

Around here 40 is a good number for late spring through early fall.

It was over 80 the other day and it is snowing out right now, so the temps can jump around a lot.

Even during the hottest summer days the night time temps can get down in the 50s

    Thanks for the suggestions.

My wife says she doesn't want to go out any colder than 10 C.
(I think she means evening temps, not overnight lows.)

I'm going to aim her UQ for -5C, as she tends to be a cold sleeper. I think she'll appreciate a little extra warmth. The estimated weight for the UQ will still be under a pound!

I expect to start sewing next weekend, and be fully finished in about 3 weeks ... I need to wait for the down to ship.
