List of Goodies for New Tarp

Hey guys I'm upgrading to a new tarp (probably a superfly) and was trying to decide on what gadgets and gizmos to outfit this thing with. I think Brandon recommends setting up the tarp without a continuous ridgeline. I'm planning on getting some dutch gear cuz you know "if it aint dutch it aint much" As of now I'm using a kelty noah 12 with a continuous ridgeline and some diy snakeskins. Is it easy to keep the tarp off the ground while hangin it without the CR. What is the easiest system to hang it and adjust it? Tarp Flyz on both ends?

I'm also going to be ordering some lash it and some new stakes. I like the ground hogs. Has anyone tried the cheap blue stakes at Wal-Mart?

I use the stingers and about 12' of lash it on each end. Works great for me. You could get away with the tarp flyz as you can thread the flyz right onto the superfly but I like the ease of moving them to another tarp when I want to.

Stakes I use are the generic aluminum y stake that is the just like the msr groundhogs, just cheaper.

So you connect the stinger to the tarp then around the tree and back onto the stinger? That seems pretty simple.

So easy. I leave the stingerz attached and just run it to the tree and back. Rinse and repeat on the other side. After a few setups you'll get good at centering the tarp right away.

There's a good discussion about tarp hardware and setup here:

Thanks gravitino, that really helped clear up the differences between flyz and stingers.

I have a couple tarps, and I'm still trying to decide which ridgeline I like best.

On my SuperFly, I have the Tarp Flyz connected directly on the key ring at the end of the tarp. I then larks head my guy line to the same key ring, run it out to the tree & back to the tarp Flyz to create the V.
For flexibility when the trees are far apart, I also attached a Dutch Hook to the end of this line, so instead of creating the V, I can just run it to the tree & loop it to the tree (only one leg of the V).

On my other tarp (a MambaJamba), I'm using a continuous ridgeline. I have a Dutch Hook on one end to tie off to the tree. On the other I think I have a Tarp Flyz. I tie the tarp to the ridgeline via prussiks (mason line).

So what is better? I'm still trying to decide. It seems to take me less time to center my tarp on a continuous ridgeline... but I'm not sure if that is because I'm still new to the V setup, so I'm giving it some time.

For stakes, I use 4 groundhogs and ti-stakes for the SF doors.

I think I may just get some flyz and stingers and play around with using them both.

Seems like the groundhog is a standard for stakes. There 2.50 each though on rei, that's why I was asking if anybody had used the cheaper ones at wal mart. They are the same style but I haven't tried them.

I haven't tried the Walmart ones but can't imagine they're that bad. I paid $1.75 for mine at MEC, a store here in Canada. Just a generic y stake. Go with whatever you want the most.
