It can be addicting. I took a sewing class at the community college and I was the only guy there.

I am cutting the material for 3 DIY hammocks right now. Plan to make 2 single layer and one double layer. Trying to decide on using a contrasting thread or a matching thread for the material. So many decisions to make
Oddly enough at the sewing store I go to the owner is a guy and the another employee I dealt with was a guy. And a few times I've been there they werr helping other guys. Must have been a weird week for them.

I was debating on the contrasting vs matching thread as well. Matching hides mistakes but contrasting looks sharp. I don't have many different colour yet but down the road I think I'll use contrasting more often.

Let us know how you hammocks turn out. I'd like to see them.

Every used sewing machine I ever bought, no matter how good the seller said it was always needed to be worked on before it would work properly. I have 8 industrial machines and about $1000 into each one. My advice is if you intend on buying a used industrial machine, figure on spending another $200 - $300 to get it running right.
Then get it cleaned and tuned up once a year.
