The urges are hard to resist

Two particular urges I've developed within the last six months: 1) to mentally measure all possible hanging opportunities in all possible locations, 2) having identified a hanging spot, to run down an internal checklist of permissions and boundaries as to why or why not try it. Case in point:

I was enjoying a fishing weekend on the Mississippi River at the Great Alma Fishing Float (anchored fishing platform below Lock & Dam #4). You can see the two iron/concrete posts sunk into the riverbed to hold the float in place with steel cables. Therefore...the urge to evaluate became very strong. Two poles no more than 30' apart? Yep. Tall enough? Yep. Strong enough? Yep. However, too far out over fast-flowing water means too high on the pucker meter. Oh, well, there will be other temptations down the road (or river).

Come on! Where your sense of adventure. My question is how are you getting to the posts? Do you have a boat?

Getting out there would be a challenge greater than I'm willing to accept (the pucker factor). When the water level drops a bit later this spring, the float operators will use a boat to push the entire operation snug to the piers and bolt them in place. Then the two piers would be right on the front edge of the float. It's relaxed away from the piers this week so that the float can be over shallower, slower water.

Here's a view from the bluffs on the WI side. The float is anchored on the MN side.
