    Ring buckles

just read a thread from cannibal mentioning when he had a ring break a, welded one from home depot. Which is what I have on my DIY hammock. But they look heftier than the triagular cinch buckles on the blackbird. The ones from home depot or lowes are rated for 200 LbS. Does anyone know the rating on brandons. I'm sure it's fine just curious ,

Remember that I had two people in the hammock that the rings were holding. They were a year old and had been exposed to the humidity that only Florida can offer. The deck was stacked. I suspect the mathathletes here will tell you that the load dynamics are different between the rings and the tri-rings. Even if it's not true, it gives them a chance to show-off their greek letters.

I am curious as well. I am 250#, and I have not noticed any bend in my rings. I have not gone on any trips since I changed the suspension, but I have spent several hours in mine.
I was a little leery when they first arrived, but I have grown to trust them.

I think brandon told me each tri-ring was rated for 350 lbs.

Change your rings out for SMC descending rings and you'll have no worries.

I'll second that as far as changing out the welded rings. But, honestly, the tri-rings won me over a long time ago.

it's more the strength of the weld that matters more than the size of the wire. alot of hardware store rings have weak welds. mine supposedly have a minimum break strength of 400# but some are alot stronger, the batch was supposed to be rated at 1000, but some broke at 400 (hence the 400 rating) so they didn't make the cut for the customer buying 1000#rings. so i got a box of these extras that they had in stock, some have better looking welds than others. since the absolute min is supposed to be 400, i go through and inspect them and toss the worst (400) welds and just use the better looking ones. the ones that get used have a signifigantly stronger weld than the weaker 400# rings which i toss.
