is this significant in the real scheme of things?..
Weight: Dynaglide (0.76 grams per foot says a 200' hank on my scales) is lighter than 7/64" Amsteel (1.4 grams per ft). So if you are using 100 feet of the former, over the latter, you are saving a little over 2 ounces. Unless you are through-hiking hundreds of miles and needing a hundred feet of cord for whatever, no it is not significant. Are you carrying a pack all day day after day. Can use fishing line shoelaces and Kevlar belt if that is significant. Losing two+ ounces of body blubber is easy and costs nothing. Only a one-time 500 calorie deficit.

    No,the difference is not significant.
More weight savings can be made by swapping out whoopie for UCR's or even single line system with no gear-just knots/bends.
Saving weight on the hammock/tarp is far more sensible as there is so much of it that a small percentage means alot of weight savings are possible.
What precisely is the weight of the same length whoopie from dynaglyde and 1/8 amsteel.
MORE IMPORTANTLY,WHAT IS THE SAFE WORKING LOAD RATIO
    FOR A 130Kgs PERSON ON DYNAGLYDE AND 1/8 or 3mm dyneema sk75.
We don't have dynaglyde here but we do have metric and imperial sized dyneema sk75.
1/8 and 3mm are only .18mm apart so not much difference in weight.

For me its the safety because of where I hang and the momentary loading caused by dynamic forces.

Collapsing in the hammock instead of getting in like your walking on eggshells.
Swinging before sleeping or resting, after all, what's the point of missing one of the main advantages of hammocking because your to scared the gear might break.

To put it in perspective-how many of you hammocking Americans drive a Prius or similar type car because its lighter and more eco friendly or a gigantic dodge ram loaded with all sorts of heavy extras?

Do you take the mats and comfort creatures out of your cars to save weight.?

If you wanna weight save to push the envelope its up to you but safety is far more important ALL the time
