repair a damaged hammock?

I finally got a chance to use my grand trunk ultra light. It wasn't too bad actually. I was able to get some sleep in 30-40 F weather. I did run into a problem though. I had a multitool in my back pocket and it some how engaged while was finding a comfortable position. The blade went through my pants and hammock like butter. I now have a couple holes close to each other in my hammock though. I can stick a finger in each hole. What can I do to patch it up? I have no experience with sewing. I think I can continue to use it if I am really careful with it, but I'm sure it'll eventually drop me like a sack of potatoes. Thanks for any info.

Really, though, as inexpensive as GTULs are, I would lean toward replacement.

Yeah, it could've been a lot worse. It still feels usable, that's why I still want to keep it. I might get another or save up for a better one in the far far future. Thank you for the repair kit suggestion.

Also, do you know how the tape adhesive reacts to water? I have a vinyl water pillow that has a pinhole leak and was wondering if I could tape over it without worrying about the adhesive losing it's effectiveness. Thanks again.

I'd replace it - sounds like your holes are at a very critical spot.

yeah Id replace it. think on the + side now you have material to make like 10 stuff sacks

It's better to be safe than sorry - replacing the hammock would bring peace of mind.

I used the eno tear-aid patch on my hammock. I used one patch cut in half, rounded the corners on the patch, and applied it to both sides of the material around the hole. Couple months and 10+ hangs later, still holding strong. I ordered extras and keep them in my pack for first-aid in the field.

Tear Aid works well, I have a repair on one of my hammocks that's several months in and shows no signs of deterioration, however you can just buy 'Tear-Aid' rather than buying the ENO stuff... The ENO is literally just cut off a sheet of Tear-Aid and marked up significantly. You can even tell it's hand cut as the lines aren't perfect.

If I'm not mistaken, that stuff has a shelf life.
