    Stupid webbing question

When using webbing with whoopies why not just pass the webbing through it's own end loop instead of using a Dutch clip or carabineer?

Many people do it. It works fine and you carry less weight. Biners are a little more convenient, but both are ok. The only real advantage is if you need to make several height adjustments on a tree, like a pine, with a million little branches. Unthreading and rethreading is a pain when the hammock is already on the whoopies.

I do exactly that, pass the woopie through the end loop of the webbing it save weight as well as having less hard wear to loose.

But I only do that when I am back packing because I am a wanna B gram weenie.

When I car camp I always use my Dutch clips because it really is just that much easier with set up and take down and adjustment of tree strap height. I also like to bling my hammock system out with as much Dutch wear as possible simply because they are awesome and look pretty plus they work wonderfully

I first started with that approach but to me the clips / biners just make for a faster setup...rather did make, I have changed up to the adjustable webbing suspension (Warbonnet) with my move to a BlackBird. Hands down, my favorite of the two systems...mainly as I find it more convenient for setup and adjusting.

Granted whoopies are probably lighter...but I haven't grown into a gram nazi yet. Ask 20 people what they use and why...you will get 20 different answers.

    Re: Stupid webbing question

I thread it through the loop. Why? Because I don't own Dutch clips yet I will be getting some at some point but atm I'm not worried, it only adds a few seconds to set up/take down time.

I thread it also, don't see the need to add additional pieces to the puzzle. Less weight, less parts to fail or lose. Car camping? Add all the bling you want...Bush

That is the easiest way, and how I prefer to do it.

The less little pieces I have to pack and keep up with the better...

    Stupid webbing question

How about Dutch buckles? I ordered a pair just so I wouldn't have to search around for or carry toggles. I plan on just leaving them attached.

I tried it that way but I always had to adjust once it tighted up on itself. With the dutch clips there is no tightening, it just grabs hold and doesn't move. Also, using dutch clips/biners allows you to keep everything attached to your hammock if you have it set up that way.

Dutch Buckles and Dutch Clips (which is what the OP is referring to) have two very different purposes. I'll try my best to explain good luck following me

Dutch Clips: Helps aid one in attaching the tree strap around the tree. So instead of having to thread your tree strap through the other loop on the other end of the tree strap you keep the Dutch Clip attached to one loop and then simply place the strap inside the Dutch Clip and wallah your tree strap is secure around the tree.

Dutch Buckles: These replace toggles and allow for vertical movement up and down the tree strap allowing you two adjustment points 1. being the woopie sling two being the actual buckle on the tree strap. However even with a Dutch Buckles a Dutch Clip is very useful because if you do not have a Dutch Clip then you most likely would have to take the Dutch Buckle off the tree strap each time you wrap the strap around the tree (unless your tree strap loop is big enough for the buckle to pass through the loop)

Hope this clarifies things and did not make them more confusing
