I am 6'4" and I hang my hammock high and in good weather hang my tarp high enough at the ridgeline to walk under - and often in porch mode until time to sleep. I use a continuous ridgeline but the idea by 'mrcheviot' of using separate ridgelines and lowering tarp at night seems like a idea worth trying.

Just did this for the first time on my last hang, but I will be repeating for sure. Porch mode, set high enough to walk under, is a dream come true.

I'm 6'3" and in Ontario where in can be hot and dry one day and cold and wet the next.

In warm weather with little/no chance of blowing rain I'll set up my tarp high and in porch mode for ventilation. If the weather turns nasty but still warm, I'll close the porch and throw on my griz-beaks.

In cool-cold/stormy weather or if it looks like it's trending that way, I'll suck it up and drop my tarp almost to the ground and use beaks.

In the end, my first priority is to keep my down dry. To this end, I only use a large tarp (12' x 10' DIY BlackCat). I'll hunch if I have to.

Re: Pitching your tarp - for tall folks

I'll be trying this tomorrow night! Supposed to be over 90 during the day yet again, so I don't plan on much wet weather.. Hopefully this will keep things cooler

Gresh, I'm not that tall, but I don't do the bending thing too well either. I like high tarps.

I hang mine high enough to stand under as well. If I want to cut out as much wind as possible and get ready for a storm I'll lower it just to be safe.

I'm 6'3", although if I was 5' I don't think I would like hunching either, I hang my tarp high in fine weather.

The reason I do a half porch is to cut the time to convert if it rains and, it really helps prevent build up of humidity on hot days (moisture rising from the ground can get trapped if tarp is low) Result is almost zero condensation from my breath, lots of air but minimal draught. Yep, the drawback is the bending of one's back.
